The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a major honors show draws close, there’s always an outcry to include additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
